Prostate Enlargement - Diagnostics

PDF Print E-mail

To clarify whether a prostate disease is present, the urologist performs some examinations either within the cancer preventive screening or in response to symptoms presented. These screenings include a detailed survey, i.e., questioning of the patient, palpation of the prostate (digital rectal examination), and the evaluation of the PSA. If the findings show a benign enlargement of the prostate, the urinary flow is measured (uroflowmetry) to determine the obstruction of urine and a subsequent ultrasound examination of the bladder is performed to determine residual urine. A urine sample provides information about concomitant diseases such as inflammation or bleeding in the urinary tract.
